Things that are awesome:
Our new washing machine
Our house
Our basement
Our friends

Things are unspeakably awesome right now. And despite some minor setbacks everything is going very well and according to plan. Even if my body thinks its going to die and hates me.

Computer Desks were moved,
Fireworks were enjoyed,
Delivery of Washing Machine Of Doom (TM) scheduled for Tuesday,
Rebooting of servers was done,
Laundry was done at old house, and moved,
Majority of acoustic tiles in basement now removed,
Floors were swept,
New (to this house, I bought it in the old one) thermostat is installed and working,
We sleep now.

Also, if all goes well I should be saving almost the amount of my difference in payment per month in this house in utility bills. Between my deliberate purchasing of only high efficiency energy star appliances, and better flow through ventilation, and more powerful AC unit (so it can actually cool the place properly, and then shut OFF rather than run 24/7, which means my thermostat can actually do its energy saving job), it seems to be going quite well as of now.

At least in the summer. In the winter, God only knows how well this converted oil burning furnace that is original with the house will work, I know its efficiency is pretty poor. I hope it fails in a "doesn't kill me or blow up my house" sort of way such that the home warranty dudes will replace the damn thing. Meh.

Midweek status update…

Accomplishments:
* Site install
* Other work accomplishments involving traffic rerouting without affecting calls in progress. We're re-architecting things during hours, in safe and prudent ways.
* Moved more cubic feet of crap. Kitchen beginning to look empty. Livingroom and Bedroom are partially empty. If we move all clothes (which we will do when we get a delivery date for our washer) the house will be significantly more empty.

In process (being shipped):
* End Table
* CD/DVD rack
* Clothes washer (a very, very nice clothes washer indeed! yay for home depot sales with no interest for 12 months!)
* Kitchen Table to match our chairs, end table, CD/DVD rack, and tv tables

Complete:
* Get quote for all desired electrical work ($1k, awaiting details via email)
* Add NID (completed today)

Need to order:
* Dryer

Need to do:
* Mow lawn at old place and move mower here
* Remove rest of acoustic tile in basement
* Prepare floor in basement corner so rack can be bolted to it
* Rekey garage side door
* Get replacement remote for garage door opener
* Get spool of cat 5e for cable runs,RJ-48 jacks, fish tape, wall plates
* Rewire utility room to add permanent light (trivial), add proper outlet to washer and dryer area rather than half assed nonsense currently installed. Will require approximately 20 feet of 12-2 + ground
* Move out of current house, scrub floor to ceiling, shampoo carpets (DD 07-15-2007)

Best. Weekend. Evar.

Since Friday Morning, I/We:

* Bought a house
* Went to a Detroit Tigers game on the company dime
* Installed a T1 at a customer site
* Moved our bed, both TVs, the entertainment center, the couch, my leather chair (which hasn't been anything but a landing zone for random crap in our bedroom since 2002!), our dresser, a few computers, our showerhead, microwave, bathroom comforts/accessories, our grill, our patio set.
* Got a new fridge (energy star ftw!) and gas oven.
* Blew up a watermelon in our backyard with a dry ice bomb
* Picked watermelon entrails off my house, garage, and car, with a big ass grin on my face
* Introduced ourselves to the neighbors by having 5-10 friends cleaning assault rifles in our backyard
* Tore down half the stupid acoustic tiles in our basement. If I remember, I'll bag them up for trash collection tomorrow. They're in the way of my grand plan to pull data cable and coax throughout the house.

Utilities transferred:
* Power
* Water/sewer (de-facto, bill sent to "resident")
* Gas
* Cable (Cablemodem temporarily added as well)
* T1 (Jeopardy to 7/9/07)
* POTS (FOC 6/29/07, completed)

Additional Crap ordered:
* DVD Organizer (Target – Ships 2 Jul)
* End table for corner in Living Room (Target – Ships 2 Jul)
* New Kitchen Table (Target – Ships 5 Jul)

Need to order:
* Washer
* Dryer
* Quote from electrician to replace service entrance/meter box/fuse panel, investigate failed circuit in living room

Need to do:
* Remove rest of acoustic tile in basement
* Prepare floor in basement corner so rack can be bolted to it
* Rekey garage side door
* Get replacement remote for garage door opener
* Get spool of cat 5e for cable runs,RJ-48 jacks, fish tape, wall plates

My pokemans! Let Me Show You Them!

Thanks to for the pointer.

Also it is important to note that the party at my house on Saturday is not my official "house warming" party but mostly a venue for the amusingly named annual event "strippers and dirty magazines" which is not as illicit as it sounds, I promise.

Actual housewarming party plans will exist in August or so. We will be actually moved in by then. It would be earlier but some people require at least 2 weeks notice, as well as my ailing grandma who cannot travel out to Detroit will be in town back home, and we need to go visit her, and that's in late July / early August. All the timing for that is up in the air but it will actually likely be really close to our first anniversary as well. Yay? 🙂

If you will be in attendance THIS SATURDAY, and seek to sit somewhere other than my back step, crosslegged on my porch, or the grass, you are advised to bring a chair. We have 4 with our patio table. We account for two of them.

Utilities ordered to be changed: Check. Power/Gas/POTS Telephone/Cable TV and (temporary) Cable Modem will be ready Friday.
Appliances ordered: Will arrive Saturday, Check. Ever bought a stove and refrigerator from the parking lot of a random bank?* I now have. Sprint PCS EVDO and The Home Depot combined make it possible!
Insurance purchased: Check. Muhaha. Thanks .
Loan paperwork and arrangements finalized: Check
Financial instrument to reimburse previous owner for overpaid property tax: Will be acquired before closing.

Less than 36 hours until I drop more money than I've ever spent in my life on anything. Yikes.

I filed an ASR for our A Links today.

I gave a rural school district more bandwidth than I thought was possible in their neck of the woods today.

I saw fireworks.

Something something something south central L.A.
so I say it was a good day.

* I was making a pit stop cause my car was being a bitch and I happened to pull into a flagstar bank lot.
