Me smiling with a cablebox with a 1394 connector populated!

I'm setting the previous letter friends only as my way of saying thank you to wide open west, so it doesn't appear on google. If you need to know what it said, and aren't on my friends list, comment here and I'll send you a copy.

    1. dude, I can totally watch hi dev TV on my normal TV now too, not that that has any percievable benefit, but hey, it's neat.

Besides, this box does all the hard work for me. It converts the stuff to MPEG2 for me, I just gotta save it to the hard disk.

    1. When the cable guy came, he forgot to bring the power cable from his van. He had to go back and get it. Apparently, this must have really shaken something in the local Wide open west office. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. nah, WOW is just staffed by dumb-fucks.
I didn't accept WOW internet service when they flatly refused to install the modem without a computer being there (seems they didn't see any special reason to bring a test computer of their own and were relying on my having one for them to use).
I spent about 10 minutes on the phone with the "tech", trying to convince him that I was right and he was, in fact, a moron.

        1. hehe. They were all freaked out when I wasn't running windows, or anything even remotely close to windows. They managed, though.

          1. likewise. But comcast doesn't care, and won't fix it. At least wow gave me that. Comcast would have probably paid lobbyists to repeal this rather than just give me what I was asking for.

          2. welcome to the market economy ๐Ÿ˜ I'm rather surprised they responded quickly…………….makes you think how many people still don't know about being able to purchase a single channel on cable instead of buying the packages, heh………….

  1. Interested in WOW and 1394 support

I assume from your entries that your 1394 port is working fine — can you validate? What sort of strings did you have to pull (or pictures you'd have to publish ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) to get it enabled? I also have WOW and a 3250 box but haven't tried to use the 1394 port…

    Thanks,

    FunSavingATon

yep. It works just fine. The box can be flaky but whatever.
Only the 3250HD does proper firewire. The other boxes have it, but it's disabled. My escalation procedure was as follows:

      1. Kindly ask CSR
      2. Get committed order date. Tech no show.
      3. Call CSR and complain about no show, get static about them not supporting firewire.
      4. Hang up and call another until you get another CSR that will let you order. No show.
      5. Write letter to city franchise board, FCC contact for WoW, and FCC complaint bureau via email citing various franchise policies and FCC regulations that require 1394 support for HD (Do note the box does not upconvert to 1394, only digital and HD will ever come out that port. Channels below 100 output nothing, and that's per spec)
      6. 30 minutes later, firewire compliant box arrives at front door, with confused tech asking who you know to get that level of response.

      YMMV.
